Modern Xbox consoles will have new default settings that regulate the use of the video game system to protect the environment.

The same announcement said that the new power saving features are being applied automatically.

“Starting today, Xbox Insiders will notice that their Xbox Series X consoles automatically update with the power shutdown option (to save energy),” Xbox Wire wrote. “This one-time update to your power settings will reduce your power consumption when your controller is off, and will not affect performance, gameplay, or your controller’s ability to receive nightly updates to the system, game, or app.”

The press release added, “With shutdown (power saving) selected, Xbox One consoles will experience slower boot times.”
