Substantial weather is ahead with two waves of heavy rain and thunder
IT’S ALREADY STARTING TO RAIN IN MANY COUNTRIES IN CENTRAL ALABAMA. THE CLOUDS WHICH ARE ACTUALLY PASSING AND WE ARE GOING TO GET A LITTLE MORE HUMBLE AT SOME POINTS. THIS IS A LIVE VIEW FROM WVTM 13 LIVE DOPPLER VIEW TO TUSCALOOSA. FROM THE WEST, IT WAS NOW IN THE SIXTIES. WE HAVE 63, BIRMINGHAM, 61, GADSDEN 59 AND ANNISTON IN THE MIDDLE 60’S IN TUSCALOOSA. IT’S GOING TO RAIN BOY, IS IT A THURSDAY. AND JUST SOUTH DOWN HERE INTO SOUTHERN PORTIONS OF ALABAMA WHERE WE CONTINUE UNDER A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING. WVTM 13 DOPPLER LIVE IS ALREADY STARTING TO TRACK SOME STORM IN THE WESTERN COUNTIES UP NEAR SULLIGEN, DETROIT AND DOWN NEAR HAMILTON. WESTERN PARTS OF TUSCALOOSA COUNTY. WE ARE STARTING TO SEE some of that heavier rain. PARTS OF RAIN, MODERATE RAIN STILL JUST TO THE WEST OF US. AND NOW AND THEN THERE WILL BE SOME THUNDER AND LIGHTNING. We’re not looking for widespread storms, but I think there will be some thunderstorms or at least a few thunderstorms as we move closer to the states while the rain continues. YOU CAN JUST GO TO SAMANTHA’S WEST IN TUSCALOOSA EAST, ANYWAY, THERE’S ALL THE DOUBLE CITY DOUBT. AND THAT’S WHY I’M JUST WAITING FOR THE RAIN TO COME DOWN. So if you’re east of I-65, east of Anniston, ALABAMA, YOU STILL HAVE A FEW HOURS BEFORE THE NEXT RAIN. THEN AFTERNOON, SOME SHOWER MOSTLY WEST AND WIND, MIDDLE 60S, LOW 60S AT 3:00 PM WITH RAIN CONTINUING TOWARDS THE I 65 CORRIDOR AT 6:00 PM. .So let me show you a movie that we’re going to put into motion. And so I really think the rain between 2 and 3 o’clock is going to give west Alabama a nice push. AND THEN ACTUALLY BETWEEN THREE AND 5:00, WE’LL START TO SEE SOME OF THE HEAVIER RAIN, MORE STEADY RAIN MOVING TOWARDS THE I-65 CORRIDOR. LET FROM MAYBE NEAR THE GROVE, OAK GROVE, HUEYTOWN, NEAR PELHAM ALABASTER COLUMBIAN NEAR CHILTON, CLANTON JAMISON AND THEN START GROVE POINT, CLANTON JAMISON AND THEN ST. WAND SWEDING’S POINT, PIEDMONT, ONT, ENNIS FORD. ACTUALLY STARTING FROM FIVE TO 7:00, A LITTLE LATER TONIGHT, SATURDAY, WE’LL STILL HAVE A FEW SHOWERS AROUND. YOU CAN GET RAIN IN THE MORNING HOURS THE NEXT TIME, BUT IT WILL SPEED AS WE GO INTO THE AFTERNOON. SO, THINGS ARE LOOKING GOOD FOR THE NEW YEAR CELEBRATION. AS FOR RAIN, WE COULD GET 1 TO 2 INCHES IN A FEW LOCATIONS IN SOME OF OUR SOUTH AND SOUTHWEST COUNTIES. Otherwise I think half an inch to an inch. EXPECT RAIN FROM THESE TOMORROW AFTER SUNDAY AFTERNOON. SUNDAY WILL BE A GREAT DAY. AND THAT BRINGS THE THREAT OF SOME STRONG TYPHOONS AND MAYBE EVEN A FEW SEVERE STORMS BY TUESDAY.
Substantial weather is ahead with two waves of heavy rain and thunder
Alabama has two showers in the next seven days: heavy rain and the possibility of a severe thunderstorm. Check out the video preview for the latest. IT’S GOING TO RAIN FRIDAY Rain all day Friday? Probably not “all day”, but the rain will be heavy and persistent as Friday afternoon approaches. Short term outlook for Friday: Early cold and early windy: Friday will start with a mix of sun and clouds, though clouds will increase throughout the day. Heavy rain will continue into the afternoon, but some light showers are possible at almost any time. Windy and breezy: Skies will remain cloudy most of the day and winds will remain strong from the south-southeast, occasionally gusting over 25 mph. Temperatures will climb into the lower and middle 60s. Afternoon/Evening Showers: The best chance for showers in North and Central Alabama will begin after 1:00 PM Friday and continue through the night. While most communities will receive less than an inch of rain, some locally heavy amounts of more than 1-2 inches are possible mainly south of I-20. The showers will continue until Saturday afternoon (New Year’s Eve), but you can expect wet and rainy weather. a little sunshine for the New Year. WEEK FLIGHT Rainy days ahead, but at least it’s still a little warm! The weekend will start with rain on Saturday, but Saturday evening will be drier for the New Year celebrations. New Year’s Day (Sunday) looks great: chilly with some fog in the morning, but mostly sunny and warm in the afternoon. Temperatures will climb to near 70°F on Sunday under partly sunny skies. WEATHER INFLUENCES arrive late Monday and continue into Tuesday and Wednesday as a weak but strong storm system brings heavy rain and the risk of severe thunderstorms to the region. A few inches of rain will fall on Wednesday. Average rainfall for early next week is about 3 to 6 inches: enough to worry about flash flooding. Severe thunderstorms that Tuesday/Wednesday? The bigger risk is in west Alabama, but it’s a situation we need to watch carefully. The atmosphere looks unstable enough, and the storm system will produce enough winds that severe storms certainly look possible Tuesday morning into the early evening. Rain and storms are followed by cooler weather. Temperatures will be in the 50s for highs and lows in the 30s next weekend. Looking longer, we still see a return to cooler weather around January 10th. It’s not a matter of IF it gets colder, but HOW COOLER it gets. It’s unlikely to be anything like December’s cold snap, but it’s far away and it’s hard to see details at this distance.—STAY WEATHER Get the free WVTM 13 app and turn on alerts for the latest weather updates. For for the latest Birmingham weather information and the most accurate verified forecast for central Alabama, watch WVTM 13 News.Current Weather ConditionsHourly Forecast | 10 Day Forecast Interactive Radar Birmingham Skycams Live Radar Doppler Sign up for email weather alerts Download the WVTM 13 App Don’t forget to follow us on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
