The family of Julian Sands have released a statement thanking California authorities for their “heroic” efforts to find the missing British actor.
“Our heartfelt thanks go out to the compassionate members of the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department who are coordinating the search for our beloved Julian, not least the heroic search teams listed below who are braving difficult conditions on the ground and in the air to bring Julian home,” the message read.
Search for Warlock star entered its 11th day amid a high wind warning with gusts of 62 to 67 mph.
On Monday, Jan. 23, the National Weather Service reported strong winds affecting the Santa Ana and San Bernandino mountain regions, near the San Gabriel Mountains, where Sands is believed to have disappeared.
The warning warned of possible power outages, travel disruptions and the risk of falling trees: “The strongest winds will be along the southern slopes and foothills, below Morongo Pass and through and below the canyons of the Santa Ana Mountains,” the report said.
Last week, ground crews were forced to suspend the search for Sands due to avalanche danger in the area.
Sands’ family shared a statement thanking authorities for the “heroic” search effort, which is still ongoing.

Conditions at Mount Baldy have been “extremely dangerous” since Sands went missing
Conditions on Mount Baldy, where rescuers are searching for Julian Sands, are “unfavorable and extremely dangerous” and not conducive to even the most experienced hikers, police warned this week.
“Due to high winds, the snow has turned to ice, making hiking extremely dangerous,” the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department said Friday.

There is no set deadline for the end of the search, authorities said
US authorities said there was “still no firm deadline” for calling off the search for Julian Sands.
The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department said the incident is still being treated as a search and rescue operation.
