Houston’s Most Surprising Restaurant Earns Major National Love — Tatemó and Texas’ Best New Restaurants in America Power

Ono unusual restaurants and courage is Houston, enjoy something from a national moment with Esquire magazine named Tatemo one of the best new restaurants in America in its latest issue. Tatemó is one of three Texas restaurants to make the top 40 rankings.

It’s only open three days a week – Friday and Saturday nights for a tasting menu and Sundays from 10am to 1pm for lunch. It also has only 13 seats inside. Yes, dining at Tatemo takes some work. Esquire believes it’s more than worth the effort, and raves about “purple totopos chips,” Cacahuazintle corn, and purple quesadillas.

This Austin wine haven comes in at No. 25 on the list. Of course, where a restaurant ranks in this Top 40 doesn’t matter as much as where it’s built. California dominates the list with 10 of the 40 restaurants calling the Golden State home. New York is not second with seven restaurants. But Texas’ unique trio holds its own, giving the Lone Star State the third-most restaurants in the Top 40, with Oregon matching that number for third place.

But there is only one Tatemó, one Canje, one Birdie. This is really important.

With the end of the 2022 Best New Restaurant in America list, something different is a major part of the food journey.
