Laura arrives at Wyndemer to find Nikolas looking over his divorce papers. He explains that Ava will get Spoon Island. Laura asks why he would give up his home and why Ava wants it. Nikolas thinks she wants it out of defiance, but she is also entitled to compensation. He thinks they both need a fresh start and the new baby will be his.
Nikolas tells his mother that he plans to sue for full custody of the child. Laura warns him that it would be a mistake not to recognize this child as his mother, even if it is Esme. She admits to visiting Esme and just seems like a scared young woman. She also says that Esme thinks Spencer is the father of her child.
Nikolas believes that this is another of Esme’s tricks, while Laura believes that she really has amnesia and can’t remember anything. Nikolas hopes it will stay that way, which confuses Laura. They are interrupted when Laura receives a call and excuses herself to take it. Laura tells the person, “I’m on my way,” after hearing what he has to say.

At Sam’s, Dante returns home to find out that the kids are sleeping over at Leo’s. Dante curses time as he has to see Heather at Spring Ridge. Sam says it’s the right time, because she’s going with him. Sam explains that he needs to talk to Esme about her old nanny Maggie. She informs him that Maggie knows who Esme’s father is and hints that he was in New York. He wonders if it is connected to the hook.
At Spring Ridge, fellow inmate Romona threatens Esme, who she says is sitting in her seat in the common room. Heather appears and puts her arm around her side, warning her not to cause trouble for her friend Esme. Ramona apologizes and quickly scurries off.
Esme thanks Heather for her help and apologizes for not being with her earlier. Heather admits that she can be extra sometimes and asks if they can be friends. Esme doesn’t know what she did to deserve her kindness. Heather claims that from the moment she saw her, she felt a connection with her and wondered if she didn’t feel the same. Esme just feels confused and worried that she might have done these horrible things she was accused of doing.

Esme feels her baby kick and Heather asks if she can feel it. Esme suggests maybe when they get to know each other better. Heather knows Esme is scared of motherhood, but she’s going natural. Esme still doesn’t know how considering she’s going to jail. Heather assures her that the cops will know very soon that she can’t be the killer.
Dante and Sam arrive and Dante asks Heather to chat. They move to the side and Sam introduces himself to Esme as the PI. Sam explains that she looked into her background and believes she’s not a hook. Esme thanks her but remembers nothing about her past. Sam believes that there is someone passing on her old nanny, Maggie, and that her biological father may be in upstate New York. Sam offers to try to find him himself. Esme admits she doesn’t have the money to pay, but Sam is willing to do it for free as it will help many of her friends. Esme replies, “Let’s do it.”
Meanwhile, Dante tells Heather that she’s supposed to find out about Esme’s connection with Ryan, so what does she have? Heather says that Ryan keeps asking about Esme and now that Esme is here, she can arrange for them to meet. Dante tells her that she has one week before she is sent back to Darkham.
Dante and Heather find Esme and Sam talking. Esme reveals that Sam believes her father is in the country and that she will try to track him down. Heather was stunned.

At Kelly’s, Liz is surprised to see her mother, as she has made it clear that she doesn’t want to see either of her parents. Carolyn explains that she is in town to consult on a patient, but she was also hoping to try to reunite with her daughter. They sit down and Carolyn asks how he is. Liz says she’s still processing the fact that she was indirectly responsible for someone’s death. Carolyn tells her daughter that she can ask her anything.
Liz wonders why her mother stayed with her father given all his affairs. Carolyn cries that they had a good marriage and they have it now, and she loves him. Liz asks, “More than me?” Carolyn regrets making her feel like she chose her father over her, and she did what she did to protect her. Liz admits that she understands that she does something unforgivable under certain circumstances. Carolyn tells her daughter she’ll stay in Metro Court if she wants to talk more, but in her experience, very few things are unforgivable.
Later, Laura arrives and meets with Liz. Liz tells her that Carolyn is in town, claiming she’s here for a patient consultation.
Back at Wyndemere, Nikolas opens Carolyn’s door. He thanks her for coming so quickly.

In Austin’s office at the hospital, Ava interrupts a tense moment between Austin and Mason. She explains that she’s back for a plastic surgery referral, but stares at Mason and realizes he looks familiar. Mason explains that he is Austin’s cousin. She suddenly realizes that Mason was at the picnic the night she was drugged.
Ava suspects the cops want to question him, but Mason says he lives in Pautuck and is rarely in town much. Austin says his cousin probably needs to go on the trip and accompany him.
Ava herself sees the tension between Austin and his cousin. Austin shrugs it off as old family business and decides to live far away from the Gatlins. He explains that he had a wonderful childhood, but everything changed when his father died. He feels that his father would want him to stand his ground, which he does. Ava heads out and wishes him luck. After she leaves, Mason lurks in the hallways.
In the dorm, Joss stands next to Dex shirtless and is shocked to see Cam at her door. Cam realizes he’s bothering him, but asks if Dex is the reason they broke up. After he didn’t say anything, Cam says he’s out of here and leaves, but Joss stops him. She asks him not to do this in the hall. Dex gets dressed and Cam heads to Jossa’s room. He thinks they are laughing at how foolish he is. Joss tells him she knows she’s not like that. Kipi, having no idea what Joss is capable of, says they’re both fucking each other and storms out. Joss stops him and Dex heads off to give them space.
Joss asks Cam why he’s here. Cam explains that he found out about Will’s cancer and wanted to be here in case she needed him as a friend. She feels like a fool for apparently having someone else to comfort her. Joss cries that she’s sorry for hurting him, but they’re over and she doesn’t owe him an explanation. Cam asks if she at least waited until they broke up before sleeping with him. She doesn’t say anything and he realizes she isn’t.
Joss swears she didn’t mean for this to happen, and explains the events of New Year’s Eve, including the hook attack, Dex’s intervention, and being locked up with him. Cam vents, “So you were so grateful to Dex that you had to have sex with him.” He says that’s not the reason for it. Cam accuses her of lying to him and giving him that BS excuse to break up. Joss swears they broke up and she changed. He says, “Yeah, you started sleeping with Dex.” Joss swears she decided long before that night that it was over, she just never got around to telling him. Joss asks him not to tell anyone about her and Dex.

At Sonny’s, she finds Spencer on the phone talking to a realtor about houses. Sonny reminds him that he can stay here, but Spencer explains that he needs the house because he’s hiring Diane to get custody of his sibling. He doesn’t want to watch his father ruin another child’s life. Sonny compliments him, but thinks he’s not ready to raise a child.
Sonny says it took him a long time to figure out what it means to be a good father, and that means focusing everything on the baby, because you’re not what’s important anymore. She asks if Spencer thinks he’s ready to do that given the state of his life. Spencer knows she has a lot to figure out, but she wants to save this child from being hurt by her father.
Dex knocks on the door, enters when told to come in, and apologizes for the disturbance. But she has something to tell Sonny. Spencer yells at Dex that they’re having a family discussion and tells the traveler to go fuck the fender. Sonny asks Dex to wait outside, so he leaves. Sonny tells Spencer that he is proud that he wants to fight for his sibling, but it will mean fighting his father.
After Spencer leaves, Sonny brings Dex. Sonny asks what he has to tell him.
On the next one general Hospital: Nikolas orders Carolyn to do as he says. In the catacombs of Paris, Anna tells Valentin that they are running out of time. Maxie asks Sam when she’s going to tell her about it. Laura says, “I’m starting to feel that way about Nikolas.” Joss cries to Cam that she’s afraid of what Sonny will do if he finds out. Sonny informs Dex that this won’t save him.
